Time Machine – Year 1993
I own a Westone $200 worth bass guitar and I want to buy a new peace. Have saved some money and the plan is to go around music stores and find a good looking 5 string Music man.
The best store in town and guess what? They don’t have any Music man in stock!!!
Than friend of mine ask me to try one of the guitars hanging on the wall…Status, never heard and with sadness on my face I’ve accepted.
First thing that I’ve realised that sustain was incredible. Just played E string (can remember what amp we used but I know that EQ was flat, 12 a clock position) and after few minutes the signal was the same…If I didn’t stoped could last forever ;o)
Little smile show up on my face. I’ve started playing some basic bass licks, playing bit with the pots on guitar and my smile become bit bigger.
Then I’ve do some slap licks and my face was transformed…Friend of mine commented that he has a feeling train hit him ;o)
I don’t know how, but I was filled with energy…My blood started circulating much faster and heart bit reached critical position ;o)… (Advice, don’t try Status guitars if you have a weak heart hahaha)
Fall in love…Then I turned bass around and had a look…Graphite neck looks like a sneak skin…Finish was perfect, design perfect…
First feeling that I have when I grab a neck that this guitar is madded for my hand…
Guitar practically has everything that I ever could ask for.
Then I’ve looked at the price….I just have around half of the money that guitar is worth…All energy gone…
Then miracle…Friend of mine ask me do I really like that guitar that much and my answer was that I’ll die if I leave shop without this peace…And what’s friends for, then to be there for you when you need them (offcourse with enough money that you need)
To make story short, he borrowed me money that I’ve payed back to him after 8 month. I was a proud owner of STATUS S2 Classic!!!
Then I visit the status website to find out more about my new baby (and I fall in love even more when I realise with how much love and patience this guitar is builded)
Here are some of information’s from Status official website http://www.status-graphite.com/
The S2 – Classic is truly Classic Status Bass Guitar.
Designed in 1981, the fundamental range has expanded to include through-neck.
The S2-Classic is combination of traditional and modern guitar design.
Woven carbon graphite and selected exotic woods, wide, even frequency response
with huge dynamics and sustain.
The graphite neck is fully adjustable
The active circuit on the S2-Classic is able to provide a huge range of tones
Master volume and pickup blend are standard, as on all Status basses, with the addition of both bass and treble, cut/boost plus a variable frequency midrange.
This midrange control works in conjunction with the 3-position switch.
In the centre position the midrange is ‘flat’
With the switch down the midrange is boosted
With the switch up the midrange is cut
The central tone pot alters the frequency, somewhat like a parametric, between 300Hz and 3KHz with a fixed boost and cut of approximately 6dB.
